What to Bring to a Notary Appointment

A simple checklist to help signers get document-ready before a mobile notary or loan signing appointment.

A smooth notary appointment usually starts before the appointment begins.

If you are meeting with a mobile notary, loan signing agent, or document witness, a few simple preparation steps can save time and reduce appointment friction.

Bring current photo ID

Have a current, acceptable government-issued photo ID ready. The name on your ID should reasonably match the name on the document. If there is a name difference, mention it before the appointment so the situation can be routed correctly.

Do not sign too early

If the document requires a witnessed or notarized signature, do not sign before the appointment unless you have been specifically told it is acceptable. Many documents must be signed in front of the notary.

Have all pages available

Bring the full document package, not only the signature page. For loan signings and real estate documents, the full package helps the signing appointment stay organized.
